Oreo Cake

Servings : 8 to 10


Whole Oreos and crushed Oreos for decoration

Chocolate cake:

1 Cup cocoa powder

½ Cups boiling water

2 1/2 Cups all purpose flour

1 1/2 tsp Baking powder

1 tsp Baking soda

1 tsp Salt

2 Cups sugar

3 Eggs

3/4 Cup vegetable oil

1/2 Cup sour cream

2 tsp Vanilla extract


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Mix together 1 cup of cocoa powder and 1 ½ cups boiling water, set aside.
  3. Place the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt & sugar) in a bowl and mix together with a whisk. 
  4. In another bowl whisk together the wet ingredients (eggs, vegetable oi, sour cream and vanilla)
  5. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients whisking all the time until combined.
  6. Add the cocoa powder mixture and mix well.
  7. Lightly spray 2 x 8 inch round baking pans with a non-stick baking spray, then pour the batter evenly into each pan, spreading the batter to the sides with a spatula.
  8. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, check for doneness with a toothpick.
  9. Remove from the oven, and using oven gloves turn the cakes out onto a cooling rack, and allow to cool completely.
  10. When cool, carefully slice horizontally a small portion of the tops of the cake, as this will allow the icing to glue the cake together.


Oreo Buttercream Icing:


2 Cups unsalted butter, softened

7 Cups Icing sugar

1/2 tsp Salt

1/4 Cup heavy whipping cream

2 tsp Vanilla extract

1 Cup crushed Oreo crumbs


  1. Using a stand mixer, mix together in a large bowl the butter, icing sugar, salt, whipping cream and vanilla until light and fluffy.
  2. Then fold in the crushed oreo crumbs.


Assembly of Oreo Cake:

  1. On a clean, dry surface place one of the cooled round cakes.  Scoop a few tablespoons of the prepared icing onto the chocolate sponge, then using a spatula evenly spread all around.
  2. Repeat the layers with the remaining cooled cakes.
  3. Next, ice the entire cake top and sides with the buttercream icing using a spatula or piping bag.
  4. Decorate the cake with whole Oreos and crushed Oreos as you choose.
